Welcome to the Jim Polite Walnut Invitational. Coach Polite passed away in 2019 and my hope is this meet will honor his life and 50+ years to coaching.
It wasn’t Dads record of wins that made him stand out, it was his dedication to his sport and the athletes. This was shown with the time he put in to get to know his athletes and the desire to want to make them better. He was always reading coaching books and going to trainings on how to be a better coach. His goals were to make each athlete better and to also make them better people. The number of athletes that would come back and talk or have lunch after years from graduating always astonished me, but it showed the impact he made on their lives. And it wasn’t with just his own athletes he was a coach/mentor to, but other teams athletes just as much as he was to his own. With the success he had with his teams and individuals he was always humble. That was one thing he taught us in my day. You can be confident but never arrogant.
