La Serna girls Varsity continued to roll in Del Rio league competition with a victory over a strong Santa Fe team. The Lancers placed all 5 scorers in the top 6 of the race where Junior Danitza Argomaniz again coming away with a first place finish in a time of 19:16. Kayla Viramontes was certain to make it a close race as she came in soon after with a time of 19:18.
The Boys Varsity race a strong showing from Santa Fe Senior Matthew Mora where he placed 1st with a time of 16:17 on the three mile course.
The Boys Varsity race headlined a day of exciting races as La Serna High School hosted Whittier High School in Del Rio League dual meet action. The host Lancers came away with an exciting 27-30 decision. Vincent Silva the Junior standout from Whittier edged out Andres Barrera of La Serna to win the race with both athletes clocking a time of 16:22. Miguel Viderique (W, 16:24), Mark Bermejo (LS, 16:31) and Jeremiah Riggs (LS, 16:52) all finished under 17:00. With the race tied at 18 a piece after each teams top four finishers had crossed the line, number 5 runner Marcus Yepiz of La Serna sealed the victory for the Lancers.
La Serna also claimed a victory on the girls side with top finishes from Danitza Argomaniz (19:25), Natalia Interiano (19:28) and Athalie Mendoza (19:28) all eclipsing the 19:30 mark.
Santa Fe hosted Cal Hi for a Week 3 dual meet and saw lots of action at all levels. The Santa Fe Varsity Girls edged out Cal 25-30 in a close meet, while the Cal Varsity Boys continued their winning streak against a non-scoring Chiefs squad due to not having five runners. Santa Fe's Kayala Viramontes won the Girls Varsity race to remain undefeated in league, while Matt Moya won the boys race in what was his first race of the season.
Santa Fe travels to La Serna this weekend and Cal has a bye.
La Serna High School had a strong showing in their season opener as they hosted the El Rancho Don's in Del Rio League dual meet action. Spotlighting the day's performances were Varsity winners Danitza Argmaniz (19:36) for the girls and Andres Barrera (16:47) for the boys. Both made quick work of the challenging, hilly, 3 mile course.
Cal Hi hosted the Whittier Cardinals for both school's second dual meet of the season. Cal's Emma Dominguez (20:11) won the Girls Varsity race and Whittier's Vincent Silva (16:33) won the Boys Varsity race. Both Cal's Boys and Girls Varsity squads improve their records to 2-0. Cal will travel to Santa Fe and Whittier will travel to La Serna next Saturday.
California High School comes away with a pair of victories at the varsity level as they open up the season at El Rancho High School. Cal Hi runners Lauren Rincon (20:15) and Gabriel Esparza (16:17) took the Varsity individual honors of the day as they raced to first place finishes. Each runner will earn one point toward the individual league standings where the lowest point total at the end of the season will earn the Individual League Champion title. Santa Fe girls and Whittier boys shine at the openning race of the year. Santa Fe Junior and returning Del Rio League Individual Champion Kayla Viramontes blazed to a 18:26.5 time on the 2.9 mile course. Whittier Junior Miguel Viderique took a first place finish in the boys Varsity race clocking 9:55.0 on the 1.9 mile course.
