What is an Academic Coach?

It is a certified teacher that helps students by providing individualized differentiated ELA (English Language Arts) Intervention instruction for each child within a small group setting. It is a teacher that uses multiple phonics/reading platforms & phonics based programs with the supportive tools to assess & instruct from LLI, Fundations, Orton-Gillingham, Benchmark, UFLI and others. Someone that combines these tools and blends them with decades of teaching knowledge based practices to assist each individual child seamlessly within a group.

Background

About myself . . .

I am a Veteran Elementary School Teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience and a Masters Degree in Instruction and Curriculum with a Mastery in Classroom Management. Having taught (chronologically): three (3) years of 5th Grade; three (3) years of 4th Grade; three (3) years of 3rd Grade; five (5) years of 1st Grade (all as a classroom teacher); and twelve (12) years as an Academic Coach (A.C.) As an Academic Coach I have been teaching primarily those students in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade while assisting students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade as well. I am an advocate for children/students/families & educators that teaches, informs, tracks, supports and defends students' & educators' rights to have a safe environment to be able to teach a proper and equal education for ALL.
