# 1 – How did earning the Dollars For Scholars/Fountain Valley Scholars award make you feel knowing that your community believed in you enough to invest in your education?
It was heart-warming and gratifying to be supported by my community in that way. Hearing from my mom over the years about various scholarship recipients made me proud of my hometown community. I watched Jonathan Watts’ Cop Car recently and was delighted at the way he represented the landscape of Security/Fountain, and at knowing that he too was a recipient of the scholarship.
# 2 – Please provide a statement or quote that you feel represents you and your post high school educational experience
The spirit of lively dissent that has fueled much of my creative work was supported in my adolescence by particular teachers and peers in the Widefield school system, and further nurtured by professors and friends in college, and at the universities I’ve worked at since 2001. I’m grateful to have been raised in Widefield. I would not be who I am without its diversity, the dedication so many of its educators, and the spirit of community that supports and fosters programs like Fountain Valley Scholars.
