Exercise keeps your heart healthy. Your heart is a muscle, Aerobic exercise is when we do activities that really get our heart pumping.
Heart is located in the middle and slightly to the left of your chest. It is the size of your fist. It pumps 100 000 times every 24 hours. It is a pump that moves blood throughout your body. Exercises that make you huff and puff keep your heart happy. Exercise for 30-60 minutes a day.
This video explains how to take a radial pulse. (the pulse found on your wrist)
This video explains how to take a carotid pulse. (the pulse found on your neck)
Pulse is the feeling of blood moving through your body. Blood carries oxygen to all parts of your body. Blood also carries carbon dioxide, a waste, that we get rid of by breathing out.

Question A. Look at the chart, if a person is age 14 and their heart is beating 140 beats per minute, what zone are they in? If you said Fitness Zone and Aerobic Zone you are correct. Jogging at a medium speed would put your heart rate in this zone.
Question B. Look at the chart, if a person is age 14 and their heart is beating 100 beats per minute, what zone are they in? If you said Healthy Heart Zone you are correct. Walking at a speed would put your heart in this zone
We can usually feel when we are in our Target Heart Rate Zone. This is called perceived exertion.
Ask yourself how tired you feel during exercise. If your answer is 3 out of 10, you’d probably be doing a light activity like a slow walk. You are not quite in your target heart rate zone, but light exercise is better than no exercise.
Ask yourself how tired you feel during exercise. If your answer is 6 out of 10, you’d probably be doing an activity like a medium speed jog. You are breathing a little heavier, you are starting to huff and puff, but you are still able to talk. You ARE in your target heart rate zone.
Ask yourself how tired you feel during exercise. If your answer is 9 out of 10, you’d probably be doing a sprint, you would be breathing very very heavy. You are NOT in your target heart rate zone.
