Teacher Fellows 2019-2020

Kindergarten

Annette Ward, North Park Elementary

Annettte is in her 10th year of teaching. She has worked as a kindergarten teacher all 10 years and is currently working at North Park Elementary. She has two bachelor's degrees. Her first degree in Family Studies was earned from Weber State University. After working in social work for 5 year, she decided that teaching was where she needed to be. She then went back to school and earned her second degree from the University of Utah in Early Childhood Education. She has also earned an endorsement in English as a Second Language and Educational Technology.

Annette is fascinated with the science of nutrition. She loves to experiment on anything new to test the outcome. Annette also spends much of her free time reading or writing. She is currently learning how to write a novel and is excited about the adventure. She also takes piano lessons and has written two full length songs. She loves to travel and has gone all over the world. Her latest adventure was to New Zealand. Her greatest loves, though, are her two dachshund dogs named Simon and Jack.

1st Grade

Lori Moore Barker, Green Acres Elementary

Lori is a First Grade Teacher with 7 years experience teaching in public schools. She taught Kindergarten her first year. Before she began teaching at Green Acres, she volunteered in schools and taught preschool at home for more than 20 years. She has her Master's Degree in reading and is a Master Teacher for PLTW. She loves science and has had the privilege of creating a blue whale unit and present it at the state, national, and international levels. In 2018, she was honored with the International Technology and Engineering Education Association Award for Teacher Excellence. She has served on the Math Fellows Team and now serves on the Science Fellows Team. She has six kids and 4 grandbabies who are her world.

Meredith Hoskins, Lakeview Elementary

Having graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BA of History and teaching credential, Meredith has seven years of classroom experience having taught in the states of Texas, California and now, Utah. In addition, Meredith has six years experience as a non-profit educator and administrator. She is very active as a WEA representative for Lakeview, serves on the WEA Board of Directors and coordinates social media for WEA.

Meredith is married with two children that are students in Weber School District. Her husband has his own business as a carpenter/handyman and is a skilled artist. During her off time she is busy with family activities and likes to run, ski, cook, travel, and hang out with her family and friends.

2nd Grade

Kristi Ostler, Country View Elementary

Kristi teaches 2nd grade at Country View Elementary. She is in her 20th year of teaching. She taught 1st grade her first year and kindergarten for 9, and has been in 2nd grade the last 10 years.

Kristi has three children, and 5 sweet grandchildren. She has four fun loving grandsons under the age of 6, and one sweet as can be granddaughter. She and her husband live in Hooper, UT.

Craig Pitts, H. Guy Child Elementary

Craig Pitts is currently a second grade teacher at H. Guy Child Elementary. He has been teaching and working as a licensed teacher and administrator for 13 years in public, private, youth corrections and therapeutic boarding schools teaching 1st, 2nd, 6th, Jr. High, and Sr. High.

Craig attended Snow College where he earned his Associate of Arts. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Master of Education in Instructional Leadership both at Utah State University, Craig is now also an adjunct professor at Weber State University teaching Curriculum Design, Assessment and Evaluation in the Education Master’s program.

Currently Craig is a Vex IQ Robotics club mentor, Weber School District Science Fellow, Utah State Science Specialist for the Lead with SEEd implementation, Community Emergency Response Team member for West Haven City, and the Weber Education Association Vice President. Craig holds an active Utah administrative license and endorsements in English as a Second Language, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), and Instructional Technology.

Outside of school, he is busy raising his son. Together they like to travel, research family history, visit places where ancestors lived, read books and explore the natural world. His personal hobbies include genealogical work, reading biographies and historical documentaries, and stained glass artwork.

3rd Grade

Melody Hardy, Hooper Elementary

Melody Hardy has been teaching for 15 years and is in third grade at Hooper Elementary. She graduated from Weber State University in Elementary Education with a Math Teaching Minor. She is currently attending the Fall Lead with SEEd trainings put on by the State of Utah and is serving on the Leadership Team at her school, as well as working as a Science Fellow with Weber School District.

With three kids of her own ages 15 to 7, she is busy running them around and keeping up with the laundry. Melody enjoys playing board games, doing puzzles, singing in the Community Choir, going on walks, and spending time visiting family.

Evelyn Johnson, Bates Elementary

When Evelyn was young, she saw the astronauts walk on the moon and was fascinated. It was then her love for learning about space began. Somewhere along the way she went to college, gained 2 degrees and began teaching. She has been in education as a teacher for nearly 30 years.

Evelyn has a wonderful husband, 7 children and 7 in-laws [ all wanted], and 16 grandchildren with 3 on the way.

She is a life long learner and expressed that she has never stopped learning and growing with my children, grandchildren, and students.

In her spare time, she enjoys camping, fishing, hiking, gardening, sewing, reading and doing new things with her husband.

4th Grade

Tami Rich, North Ogden Elementary

Tami taught 2nd grade for 2 years at Roy Elementary, then taught 3rd and 4th (2 years) at Majestic Elementary. This is her 6th year of teaching! (3rd year teaching 4th grade)She LOVES 4th GRADE!!! Tami went to Weber State University and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with a specialization in Math. She loves teaching all subjects, but teaching Math is her favorite!

Teaching is something that isn't just a job for her. When she began teaching, she knew she loved it, but during her first year of teaching she found out about some fertility issues and used teaching as a way to cope with my emotions of this difficult news. She puts everything into her classroom and spends many hours making sure her students are taken care of. Her students are like her own and she is so grateful for each and every one of them, even when the circumstances are difficult. Teaching isn't just a job to her. It's about making sure her students feel loved and that they love learning.

Trina Bingham, Country View Elementary School

This is Trina's second year of teaching. She has a bachelor's degree in Exercise Sports Science with a minor in Biology from the University of Utah (GO UTES). She loves science, and is a self proclaimed "science nerd". It is something that has always fascinated her. Trina was certified last year in PLTW.

Trina is the wife to Eric and a mother to great to 4 great kids: Heidi is a senior at Fremont High School. Amy is a sophomore at Fremont High School. Kelly is a 7th grader at Rocky Mountain Jr. High. Alex is a 6th grader at Country View.

5th Grade

Kim Silver, Silver Ridge Elementary

This is Kim's 18th year teaching, with 14 of those years in the 5th grade. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. While teaching she has earned her ESL and Elementary Math endorsements.

Additionally, Kim is a member of the Weber School District Science Fellow team, a current participant of the Lead with SEEd program through the Utah State Board of Education. She works with the robotics club and serves on the leadership team at Silver Ridge Elementary.

Kim lives in Davis County with her husband and two boys. They love outdoor recreation, and spending time with friends and family.

Heather Smith, Country View Elementary

Heather has been teaching for 8 years. She currently teaches 5th grade at Country View Elementary. She attended BYU, BYU-I and graduated from Weber State University with a bachelors of science in elementary education. Heather has been the team lead for her school's UBI/MTSS team for the past three years. As a science fellow, she conducts professional development for other 5th grade teachers in the Weber School District.

She has one child. He is 4 years old. Heather enjoys playing with cars, watching movies while eating popcorn, cooking up new experimental recipes (that sometimes turn out), and reading. Her favorite thing is spending time with her family. She loves everything BYU and loves to teach, especially science!

6th Grade

Bradley Spencer, North Park Elementary.

Brad is in his second year of teaching at North Park and absolutely loves working with the amazing students and staff. Over the last seven years Bradley has worked in various positions of education including teaching, human resources, and administration. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Human Resource Management and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Weber State University. He currently serves as a Science Fellow for Weber School District as well as a State Science Specialist for the Lead with SEEd standards.

This year he has helped with the implementation of the VEX Robotics Club at North Park Elementary and is excited for the upcoming competitions. Bradley is happily married to his beautiful wife Raquel and has an adorable little daughter named Brynlee. Bradley has worked with several schools across the state of Utah and is happy to finally be able to call Weber School District his home.

Jennifer Davis, Kaneville Elementary

Jennifer Davis is in her tenth year of teaching 6th grade at Kanesville Elementary, where she is also the VEX IQ Robotics Coach. Jennifer regularly conducts professional development meetings at the district level as a Science Curriculum Teacher Fellow. She taught at the Northern Utah Professional Learning Academy workshop for science during the summer of 2018, and she taught science at Weber School District Kids Camp during June of 2018 and 2019.

As the VEX IQ Robotics Coach at Kanesville, she has coached teams to the State Competition for the past four years and has taken teams to the Worlds Competition in 2018 and 2019. Jennifer currently coaches eight Elementary teams at Kanesville, as well as two Middle School teams privately for VEX IQ Robotics. She also trains teachers and coaches across Weber School District and assists in running competitions for VEX IQ Robotics.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Business Minor from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Weber State University, and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (grades 5-9) from Western Governors University. Jennifer has teaching endorsements in Elementary Mathematics, Mathematics Level 2, and Elementary STEM. She resides in Roy, Utah, with her husband, Mark, and their three children.

Lara Tingey, West Haven Elementary

Lara Tingey has taught for 16+ years and currently teaches 6th grade at West Haven Elementary in Utah. She teaches all subjects to her sixth graders while she is also her school STEM facilitator and VEX robotics coach. At the district level she is an elementary science fellow, STEM committee as the 6th grade representative, and elementary math/science Olympiad committee. At the state level she helped write questions for the state standardized assessment for 6th grade 3D science, evaluated state science textbooks with the adoption committee for 6th grade science; in addition she participated in her district ELA textbook adoption.

For the past four years Lara has been a SEEds WSCT instructor helping introduce the new 3D science to teachers. In the summer of 2018 she taught lessons on inquiry based classrooms, cross-cutting concepts and coming to a consensus (the makerspace model) at the NUPLA conference for the state. Some of the awards she has received include: First Year Teacher of the Year finalist, USTA Outstanding Elementary Educator, WSD Teacher of the Year finalist, and a three time recipient of the Ritchey Science Fair Teacher Award. Lara Tingey has a B.S. in Elementary Education with an emphasis in science and humanities from Idaho States University, and a Masters in Curriculum Instruction from Grand Canyon University. She resides with her husband and three girls in North Ogden, UT.
