Teacher Fellow Compensation

Teacher Fellows are paid a yearly stipend for their work with district curriculum specialists. This stipend is different for each content area and depends on the tasks the Teacher Fellow will be involved in.

Administrators should compensate teacher fellows for any additional professional learning, collaboration and advising, or classroom observations and discussion. The rates for these different activities are listed below.

During Contract Hours

Presentation: If a Teacher Fellow is asked to present to a group of WSD teachers during a school day, the inviting administrator is responsible to cover:

  • the cost of the teacher's classroom substitute
  • compensation for preparation time outside of contract hours
    • $25 per hour
    • 2 hours prep for every hour of presentation
  • no compensation is needed for the actual presentation because the teacher is already on contract during these hours


Collaboration/Advising: If a Teacher Fellow is asked to collaborate or advise another WSD teacher or group of teachers during the school day, the inviting administrator is responsible to cover:

  • the cost of the teacher's classroom substitute


Observation & Discussion: If the Teacher Fellow is asked to host another WSD teacher or group of teachers during the school day, the requesting administrator is responsible to cover:

  • the cost of the visiting teachers' substitutes
  • $25 for each hour of discussion during lunch or outside of contract time (1 hour minimum)


Outside of Contract Hours


Presentation: If a Teacher Fellow is asked to present to a group of WSD teachers outside of contract hours, the inviting administrator is responsible to cover:

  • compensation for preparation time outside of contract hours
    • $25 per hour
    • 2 hours prep for every hour of presentation
  • compensation for presentation time is required at the rate of $25 per hour (1 hour minimum)


Collaboration/Advising: If a Teacher Fellow is asked to collaborate or advise another WSD teacher or group of teachers outside of contract hours, the inviting administrator is responsible to cover:

  • compensation at the rate of $25 per hour (1 hour minimum)
