SUMMER
Something Fun That Happened Over The Summer
On their national website, the Do the Write Thing Challenge is described as:
Do the Write Thing
An initiative of the National Campaign to Stop Violence, Do the Write Thing (DtWT) is a writing program for middle school students that positions them as community catalysts as they examine the root causes and impact of youth violence.
Students write, we listen.
In Utah, we had over 1,000 Utah student submit writings. These writings are judged by a panel of VIP judges including SLC judges, politicians and public servants like the Chief of Police. The top writings are tallied and the top boy and girl in the state are chosen to go to Washington DC as official Ambassadors of Peace. In DC their writings are inducted into the Library of Congress in an moving induction ceremony. These students, in their official roles as Ambassadors of Peace, meet with their Utah Senators and Representatives to share their messages of hope.
This year, both students chosen were from SOJH: Adeline White and Zayden Maughn’s writings were selected based on their powerful messages. Adeline and Zayden did a wonderful job representing our school, district, and state. We want to congratulate them on this important achievement and celebrate their writing talent.
