Snowcrest Skyhawks, For the Win!
Snowcrest students enrolled in the 9th-grade CTE Teaching as a Profession class crafted remarkable work that paid off handsomely at the 2025 Educators Rising State Conference. Students were invited to compete with their educational artifacts, lesson plans, and public speaking skills at Weber State University on March 5th.Â
This annual competition, now in its sixth year, is open to young people registered as Educators Rising members who are interested in careers in teaching or business management. Some popular events are Creative Lecture (Ted Talk), Lesson Planning, Interactive Bulletin Board, Children’s Book Design, and the like. This year, our students even competed in the newest Spanish-language events!Â
“Educators Rising is a career and technical student organization (CTSO) with intra-curricular learning opportunities integrated into existing education and training programs. Educators Rising is a community-based movement that provides Grow Your Own programming through the Educators Rising Curriculum and supporting student activities. With a presence in all 50 states, chapters are provided classroom resources along with the opportunity to attend the National Conference where members, teacher leaders, and educators from around the nation come together to showcase the skills they have gained in their education and training programs.”Â
I’d like to extend special thanks to Valley Elementary and Snowcrest Junior High’s teachers as they hosted emerging teachers in their classrooms for Lesson Planning & Delivery event preparation and job shadowing. Snowcrest students simply swept the Junior Varsity contest categories this year. And one young lady even placed 2nd in Varsity, meaning she competed against Juniors and Seniors in high schools from around our state!Â

Weber School District and the USBE are making tandem strides to address a looming teacher shortage by offering the Teaching as a Profession strand of classes to students in grades 9 -12. Emerging adults can learn about the art of teaching and the management of people while still secondary students themselves. The class is a half-year duration at Snowcrest, and students can participate in the strand of teaching classes all the way to concurrent enrollment classes in junior and senior year. Preparing for a career in public service is something to be proud of, and we are thrilled that our Snowcrest Skyhawks are on a track to success.Â

English 9 students created a mock House of Usher using trinkets and trash cardboard to pony with their readings of Edgar Allan Poe's Fall of the House of Usher AND Ray Bradbury's Usher 2. This was a group effort that brought the story alive for students as the reading level and vocabulary of this story can be profoundly difficult for 9th-graders in 2024. This architectural rendering of the house helped students with comprehension and connections that would have been hard to achieve without the concrete example.

8th grade students in FCS Exploration class had their own opportunity to learn about interior design skills, and then create a room in box! Students worked on this project for two weeks to add in elements and principles of design according to what their dream room might look like. Students loved the hands on work and enjoyed creating their own choice of decorations and designs.
