Welcome to Third Grade!
Below you will find important information regarding your child’s year in 3rd grade.
Homework
For homework this year your child will be required to read for 20 mins at least 5 nights each week. Those minutes will be recorded on a weekly reading log. There will also be one fluency passage sent home for practice. In addition, there will be a math practice page sent home to reinforce and practice their math facts.
**Note**
Weekly homework will not be accepted or recorded beyond 2 weeks after it’s due date.
Reading Parties
We love to reward our students for their hard work and responsibility. Therefore, we will have two reading parties this year. In order for your child to attend these parties, the following requirements must be met:
20 mins./5 nights a week recorded and turned in on time.
No more than 4 reading logs can be missed in a 16 week period.
Homework turned in with fewer than 100 minutes read for that week will not be counted as fulfilling the requirements for the reading parties.
Kid Market Days
As a grade, we use classroom money to reward students for showing good Patriot behavior as well as responsibility. This money can be used to purchase items at our quarterly Kid Market Days. On these days, students bring items to sell. These items can be store bought or homemade (excluding homemade food). Students are also not allowed to sell weapons such as water guns or Nerf guns. More information will come home prior to our first Kid Market Day. The dates for each day are as follows:
October 25th @ 2:15-3:00
January 17th @ 2:15-3:00
March 21st @ 2:15-3:00
May 9th @ 2:15-3:00
Field Trips
We will be going on a few field trips this year. Permission slips and informational notes will come home prior to each field trip. The TENTATIVE schedules are as follows:
November 22nd-Dinosaur Park & Treehouse Museum
May 21st-Emma Russell Park
General 3rd Grade Expectations
Toys
Please do not allow your children to bring toys or other non-educational items to school. They will be taken away and you will be asked to come pick them up.
Markers
Aside from the dry erase markers listed on our classroom supply list, no other markers are allowed. We have markers here at school available for art projects and such.
Cell Phones & SmartWatches
If your child needs a cell phone at school, it needs to be TURNED OFF and stays in their backpack at all times.
Students can wear SmartWatches however, they can only be used to tell time. No active apps (including phone calls and texts) can be used during school time. If it becomes a distraction, the student will be asked to put the SmartWatch in their backpack for the remainder of the day.
Other Items
Any other items that become a distraction may be addressed at the teacher’s discretion.
If you ever have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact your teacher. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
