Reach Higher is an initiative created by First Lady Michelle Obama with the aim of inspiring every student in America to take charge of their future by continuing and completing their education after high school, whether at a professional training program, a technical college, or a four-year college or university.
In Wisconsin, a group of educators, organization representatives and policy makers have come together to form Reach Higher Wisconsin to spearhead efforts to bring the Reach Higher initiative to schools and organizations across the state who are in a position to make commitments which help more students obtain post-secondary education.
The Reach Higher Wisconsin initiative will help make sure all students understand what they need to complete their education, including:
Reach Higher Wisconsin is led by a Leadership Team consisting of individuals representing key organizations which are heavily invested in increasing career and college readiness. The Leadership Team works with additional organizations, associations and individuals on subcommittees to move forward the activities, projects and progress of the initiative.
Organizations, school districts and individuals interested in joining Reach Higher should complete the Reach Higher Wisconsin Membership Application. Questions regarding Reach Higher Wisconsin can be sent to stacye@wscaweb.org . Interested individuals can also attend the upcoming Reach Higher Wisconsin Convening on February 5, 2019.
Producer of the viral animation video “Success in the New Economy,” and author of the bestseller, “(Re)Defining the Goal,” Dr. Fleming is a passionate advocate for ensuring all students enter the labor market with a competitive advantage. He travels internationally speaking to both educators and industry helping to shatter antiquated thinking about education, skills training, and career readiness. His mission: Close the skills gap one audience at a time.
Dr. Fleming currently supports over 40 Career & Technical Education programs as a Dean of Instruction, CTE at Norco College (California) and serves as regional vice president for the California Community College Association for Occupational Education. Previously, he analyzed industry trends and workforce needs while providing customized geospatial labor market research for the largest higher education system in America: the California Community Colleges.
Dr. Fleming is a faculty member, national speaker, and recovering academic elitist. A true life-long learner, he has earned two Bachelor’s degrees, two Masters degrees, and a Ph.D. But it was his CTE industry certification in geographical information systems (GIS) that lifted him out of working poverty. He is a proud eagle scout, father, has completed 5 marathons, and won a spelling bee in the third grade.
