The school’s second annual Madrigal Dinner brought humor, creativity, and live performance together for an evening of entertainment, giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents while supporting the fine arts program.
“The purpose of hosting a Madrigal Dinner is to help foster a love of performance for our students, while simultaneously raising funds to help the fine arts program,” fine arts director Amber Smith said.
The dinner transformed the venue into an immersive theatrical experience, with students performing in character throughout the night. Audience members were entertained not only by scripted scenes, but also by the performers’ interactions, which helped create a lively and engaging atmosphere.
The event also connects directly to what students learn in class, particularly in drama courses. Skills such as rehearsal etiquette, stage directions, diction, and character development were put into practice, allowing students to gain hands-on experience beyond the classroom.
Preparation for the Madrigal Dinner began early in the school year. Auditions were held in September, and rehearsals took place after school on Thursdays. As the performance dates approached, rehearsal schedules increased, requiring students to balance academics, extracurricular activities, and performance commitments.
According to Smith, students rose to the challenge through dedication and teamwork.
“Students rehearse a lot before performing so they are completely comfortable with their lines,” Smith said.
The performance featured a variety of comedic scenes that kept the audience engaged throughout the evening. One moment stood out as a favorite due to its physical comedy and timing.
“The whole show was so funny, but the scene that made me laugh the most was when three characters were tied up together and rotating to speak their piece,” Smith said.
Audience members responded positively, showing their support through laughter and applause. The strong turnout reflected continued interest in the event and enthusiasm for student-led performances.
With growing participation and community support, the Madrigal Dinner continues to establish itself as a meaningful tradition that highlights student talent, encourages collaboration, and strengthens the school’s fine arts program.
