Wright City High School's teacher spotlight for October was awarded to Anna Decker. This is Decker's first year as an English teacher at Wright City.
“I was inspired to become an educator because not only do I love to learn, but I also love watching others find joy in learning,” said Decker. “I love having the opportunity to inspire students to find a part of their education that they can enjoy.”
As a new teacher to the district, Decker was uncertain about what to expect at Wright City, but she stated that her experience has been positive so far.
“My experience at Wright City has definitely had a large influence on me so far. All of the staff at Wright City have been amazing with their support,” said Decker. “A large difference with Wright City has been the opportunity of co-teaching three classes; it has allowed me to strengthen my collaboration skills and made me a better educator.”
As the early months of the school year begin to fade and the second quarter begins, Decker is eager to continue expanding her students' passion for literature.
“I am most looking forward to (hopefully) seeing each of my students find a piece of literature that they enjoy,” said Decker. “I have such a love for reading, and would love to see others find enjoyment with it too.”
To help students find enjoyment beyond just her class, Decker offers advice for students about navigating high school.
“Don't make school harder for yourself! Reach out to your teachers when struggling, ask questions, join a club/sport, and do your work during class,” said Decker.
Wright City High School is extremely thankful for all that Decker has done for the school so far, and they look forward to continuing to see her impact on her students and the district.
