Wright City High School’s Future Business Leaders of America is a student organization that prepares members for careers in business, leadership, and community service.
Through competitions, workshops and networking opportunities, students develop skills in communications, teamwork and professionalism. The club also encourages community involvement and personal growth to help members succeed in their future careers. Their most recent volunteering event was the Alzheimer’s walk.
The Alzheimer's walk supported individuals who experienced Alzheimer's and their families. Wright City gathered a team of Wright City students who walked the streets of St. Charles at the St. Charles Community College and raised $1,000 for those impacted by Alzheimer's.
The Team featured FBLA officer Matthew Johnston.
“Taking part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s was an unforgettable experience. Being surrounded by so many people walking for the same cause reminded me how powerful a community can be when we come together,” said Johnston. “It was inspiring to see everyone supporting loved ones, sharing stories, and walking with purpose.”
The walking course featured two options: a mile-long track and a three-mile-long track. Along the course, people handed out snacks and water bottles to support and give back to the people who chose to walk. Throughout the walk, multiple spectators cheered on participants.
The walk featured multiple businesses and organizations, one of which included Kona ice. Kona ice was handing out free cups of Kona ice for runners and volunteers. Other organizations helped in other ways, such as donating to the Alzheimer's community.
The next walk to end Alzheimer's is on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 9 a.m.
