On Sept. 8, Epsilon Beta held its first meeting of the school year. The meeting was highly attended, with a record 18 total members present.
The meeting consisted of an introduction to Epsilon Beta, event planning, and discussion of future recruitment efforts. The 18 members present were a large increase from the previous year.
“I believe the increase in members is due to the foot traffic into the library increasing partially because of the phone ban,” said Lily Tuley, Epsilon Beta president. “Since students can't use their phones to access Apps such as Kindle/ Sora/ and Libby, they are coming into the library to check out hard copies of books.”
With the plethora of new faces, the start of the meeting was spent explaining what Epsilon Beta is. A common misconception is that Epsilon Beta is a book club, but in reality it is much different than that.
“It's a library focused community service club. EB is for students who enjoy using the library to read, study, collaborate, and relax,” said Tuley. “Members help improve and promote the library by recommending and participating in school library programming and improvement projects; promoting the school library and literacy to the local community; and participating in service projects that benefit the library, school, and the Wright City community.”
“They (the students) are seeing the Epsilon Beta displays or interacting with the 'Would You Rather?' questions located outside the library,” said Tuley when asked about other forms of recruitment and how students interact with them.
With new recruitment methods, Epsilon Beta looks to continue adding even more members, with the hopes to expand their impact on the community and school.
