The Wright City HOSA (Future Health Professionals) has seen a remarkable surge in membership, growing from 30 members in the 2022-2023 school year to more than 80 members currently.
The club's success in attracting new members can be attributed to their well-orchestrated HOSA sign-up week and the creation of T-shirts handed out to all members upon payment of membership dues.
With the significant increase in membership, the club has adapted its operations to accommodate the growing interest. Meetings have become more involved, and the club now plans a greater number of activities compared to the previous year. These changes were driven by interest inventories conducted by the club's officers at the beginning of the year.
HOSA, an international career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE, aims to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.
The Wright City HOSA chapter’s primary goal for the year is to help members find their passion for a healthcare profession, whether through discovering a future career or gaining a better understanding of their bodies and the world around them.
Whitney Schuenemeyer, the club's advisor, discussed their goals for the upcoming year in an interview.
"Our officers come up with our yearly goals. This year's officers focus was on growing the program and service,” Schuenemeyer said. “I believe they've done a great job. We already have several people that have achieved service awards, such as Barbara James and Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, and we've grown 130%. In April we will hold elections for next year and then the 2024-2025 officers will create our goals for next year in May."
As the club continues to thrive, it is expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of healthcare professionals in the Wright City community and beyond.
