As the school year nears its end, Wright City High School seniors eagerly prepare for the next chapter of their lives. Among them is Andrea LopezLuna, a Health Occupations student who plans to pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
"Health Occupations has given me many chances to experience new things," said Lopez Luna. "What I love most about this program is that we have the chance to put our feet into the medical field and do hands-on work."
Lopez Luna credits her Health Occupations teacher, Leigh Beasley, for her success in the program.
"I want to give a big shoutout to Mrs. Beasley, who has helped me through this journey and has taught me so much about the medical field," she said.
When asked about her favorite aspect of high school, Lopez Luna reflected on her experiences in the Health Occupations program.
"We all treat each other like family, which I like since we have trust in one another, and their jokes are hilarious," she said.
Health Occupations students participate in daily field trips called clinicals, where they visit different local medical institutions for hands-on learning.
"We leave school for clinicals, and when we return, we share our stories and experiences," said Lopez Luna. "Some of the stories are interesting and enjoyable to listen to."
After graduation, Lopez Luna will attend St. Louis Community College-Forest Park for her first semester of college, where she plans to study Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Upon earning her associate's degree, she intends to transfer to a four-year university to further her education. Her ultimate career goal is to become the owner of her own Medical Sonographer business.
Reflecting on her 12 years of schooling, Lopez Luna shared, "The biggest thing I've learned is that not everything would be easy; it would get more challenging over the years. Meanwhile, giving up would bring no success."
