With fresh talent, new training approaches, and a focus on building a strong team culture, expectations are high for this year for Wright City High School Girls Soccer.
As winter sports come to a close and spring sports begin to bloom, the girl's team is gearing up for an exciting new season.
The departure of senior players has opened up positions in the varsity lineup, including crucial captain roles. Paige Kirn, junior, standout player, and previous captain is expected to lead the team once again this season.
"Paige Kirn was the captain that everyone turned to last year, and we will be looking toward her this year as well," Assistant soccer coach Alex Kohlfeld said, acknowledging Kirn's significant impact on and off the field.
Kirn views her leadership role as a privilege and an opportunity to be the best leader she can be and to motivate her teammates to perform at their highest potential.
“I just want to push everyone to do their best so we have a great outcome this season.” Kirn said about being a captain.
Kohlfeld, is eager to share the changes they've made to improve. One notable shift has been in their training regimen, with an emphasis on fieldwork and skill-building.
"We are doing more dribbling and ball work, [Jacob] Wallace takes them to the weight room to get a workout, and we are trying to do more of that instead of conditioning and just running them," Coach Kohlfeld emphasized when discussing the off-season preparations.
In addition to the changes in training routines and leadership roles, it's an intense dedication that soccer demands. The rigorous training sessions, which include grueling drills, conditioning exercises, and countless hours of practice, are essential to performing at high levels.
The Wright City Girls Soccer team aims to not only meet but exceed their season expectations. As they prepare for the upcoming matches, their rigorous training will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their pursuit of success.
As the Wright City Girls Soccer team embarks on this season with renewed determination and a commitment to their evolving culture, they aim to grow not only as individuals but also as a cohesive unit on the field.
With talented players like Kirn leading the way, the team is poised for an exciting and successful year ahead.
"I am going to be the best leader I can and push everyone to do their best," Kirn said.
