As the winter season unfolds, the Wright City High School Color Guard is gearing up for upcoming competitions, with their nearest event scheduled for February 10th at Francis Howell and another on March 16 in O’Fallon.
Stepping onto the stage with a captivating choreography set to Billie Eilish's "No Time to Die," featured in a James Bond film, the color guard members will showcase their talent, dressed sharply in suits, and convey drama and beauty through their expressive movements.
Practicing diligently twice a week for the past three months, the team has been refining their show under the guidance of Madison Luedtke, who has several years of color guard experience. The current practices have been productive, and she looks forward to witnessing the team's progress in the upcoming sessions.
The anticipation among the members is palpable as they approach the competition season. Each member brings their unique passion to color guard, finding pride in the sport's expression and individuality. The versatility of color guard allows everyone to connect with a song and express themselves through their choreography.
Luedtke encourages newcomers, "We are always looking to expand our color guard. It is a fun experience to not only make friends but to also express yourself through movement and music."
Interested individuals are welcome to approach her, with Luedtke recommending picking up a flag and starting to spin as a way to get started.
Reflecting on her own journey, Luedtke shares, "Color guard always interested me when I was in band myself." She emphasizes the unique storytelling aspect of winter guard, where the guard works together to express ideas visually, making it an intriguing and visually beautiful form of expression.
