Wright City High School takes great pride in honoring hard-working staff. Administrators asked staff members to nominate Support Staff of the Year candidates who they believed were deserving of this prestigious award. The nominees were announced during the December assembly, Wed. Jan, 17.
The anticipation for nominee names was intense, staff and students were at the end of their seats eagerly listening to each name being called. Principal Matt Brooks began announcing support staff nominees, beginning with Kassandra Evans, the administrative assistant. “If I won this recognition, it would mean the world to me and more.” Excitedly remarked, Evans. “I’ve only been here one semester, knowing that I have made that much of an impact on students in a short period of time really makes it more special.”
Shortly after, Michelle Kunkel was announced. Kunkel serves as the attendance secretary for the main office, she is the first person you see upon arrival. “I come in with a smile everyday to do the best I can for students and staff.” Says Kunkel. A certainly special reaction was sparked when School Resource Officer, Caitlin Holzum’s name was called. Holzum shares her heartfelt reaction of being nominated, “For someone to notice all of my hard work makes me feel like I am doing a great job even on the hard days.” She shared. “I have to not only be a police officer, but I am a counselor and a teacher.” It is apparent that Holzum takes great pride in her career.
The remaining nominees include Morgan Kohr (District Communications and AD Administrative Assistant), Kathy Lewis (Registrar), and Amie Stump (Custodian). The winner of the well-deserved Support Staff of the Year award will be recognized on Feb,15. Good luck to all candidates, and stay tuned for the results in a future edition of the WC Connection.
