Wright City Middle School is proud to announce six Teacher of the Year nominees. This includes Amber Smith (Choir Director), Brianna Hurst (8th-grade Math teacher), Lisa Janas (Computer Applications), Shannon Fetzner (8th-grade Social Studies), Jessica Twellman (Special Education), and Jennifer McLaughlin (7th-grade Math Teacher).
When questioned about the significance of winning this award, Lisa Janas replied,
“It would be an honor to represent my building and district, as well as be a validation that what I am doing is what I am supposed to be doing.”
Janas also described feeling “humbled and surprised” when notified of her nomination. She also serves as the Student Council and Yearbook Sponsor.
Like Janas, Jessica Twellman relates to the humbling feeling.
“I am genuinely humbled and appreciative of this honor to be nominated,” said Twellman.
She also acknowledges that this award would represent the collective efforts of the outstanding staff, dedicated teachers, and inspiring students she has the privilege of working with.
“My initial reaction was shock. Especially since I’ve only been teaching since August,” said Jennifer McLaughlin. “This award would symbolize the recognition of the hard work and dedication I've devoted to our Wright City students.”
The teachers have worked immensely, and it will be a tough competition. There are many fantastic staff members as well as teachers.
Erica McGowan, the Administrative Assistant, warmly greets admin, teachers, parents, and students daily.
“To win this award would mean I am doing my job to the best of my ability and getting the job done for the admin, teachers, and parents I work with,” said McGowen.
The remaining nominees include Vickie Creech (Paraprofessional), Michael Bortz (Paraprofessional), Annette Martinez (Paraprofessional), and Joseph Purl (Paraprofessional).
