The Epsilon Beta library club recently attended their annual state conference, an event planned by club members across Missouri. The conference, which took place in April, spanned two days and featured various activities centered around the theme of "Grimm's Fairy Tales."
The first day of the conference was dedicated to introductions and group games, allowing students to get to know each other and make new friends. One of the highlights of the evening was the costume contest, where club members dressed up as characters from various fairy tales, including Little Red Riding Hood, The Twelve Brothers, Rapunzel, Snow White, The Raven, and Rumpelstiltskin. Attendees voted on their favorite fairy tale, the best character, and the scariest costume.
Following dinner, students participated in a trivia game based on facts from the original Grimm tales and this year's Gateway Nominees. The night concluded with a glow party, where students danced and showed off their costumes under the light of glow sticks.
The second day of the conference focused on competitions, with students voting on their favorite bookToks, book talks, book nooks, and book shelfies. The conference also honored over 15 seniors for their contributions to their clubs.
For lunch, attendees enjoyed Jimmy John's sandwiches and a cake provided by club sponsors. The afternoon featured a fairy tale murder mystery, where volunteers played different characters. The rest of the conference listened to the story and examined evidence to guess the guilty party.
During the officer meeting, new officers for the 2024-25 year were announced, and members discussed ideas for next year's theme, games, foods, and activities. The conference concluded with a field trip to a historic Missouri site, where students explored shops, toured the old capitol building, and learned about life in the 1800s.
Attendees expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bring ideas back to their schools and meet new people, making the conference an unforgettable experience for both students and teachers.
