Ambitious Superintendent Dr. Christopher Berger shares his innovative ideas following retirement after four years in the district.
Berger began his career teaching elementary education and started in the Wright City School District as the leading superintendent for the 2020-21 school year.
While coming into the district during a worldwide pandemic, Berger focused on keeping the education system up and thriving.
“I thought there was an opportunity where if we could strike the cord just perfectly, where we still maintained some expectations–I was ready to try to continue to line some things up that would have an impact on student achievement,” Berger said, “so as we came out of Covid where everyone else might stay status quo, we would actually improve during that time.”
Navigating the path to set himself up for success in the following year proved to be a challenging endeavor. Despite the obstacles, his unwavering dedication and hard work bore fruit as he spearheaded transformative initiatives within the district.
Through his strategic efforts, the educational institution ascended to an impressive position, ranking among Missouri's top 20 percent of schools.
His commitment to excellence and innovation played a pivotal role in reshaping the educational landscape within the district.
Implementing forward-thinking strategies, he worked collaboratively with educators, administrators, and the community to create an environment conducive to academic achievement and overall growth. These efforts were focused on immediate success and designed with a long-term vision, fostering a sustainable culture of excellence.
“My success has spawned from the stability of the board,” Berger highlights, “I did not inherit a new board–we have had several board members seated for a great deal of time, and what that creates is the stability on whenever you have things - like a global pandemic.”
Under his leadership, the district experienced a notable uplift in academic performance and the overall well-being of students and the school community. By fostering a holistic approach to education, he championed programs that addressed the diverse needs of students, ensuring a well-rounded and inclusive educational experience.
This journey toward success showcased his resilience and ability to inspire and mobilize a collective effort.
“My two right-hand men–Mr. Doug Smith and Dr. Jeremy Way–I could not have asked for two better assistant superintendents to make our school district successful.” Berger rejoices.
Their collective synergy demonstrated a harmonious working relationship and underscored a shared commitment to the overarching goal of making their school district a paragon of success. As Berger rejoiced in their contributions, it’s evident that the triumvirate's collaboration went beyond professional obligations, evolving into a genuine partnership fueled by mutual respect and a shared passion for educational excellence.
Their teamwork culminated in innovative ideas and commitment to fostering a dynamic learning environment that resonated with the broader educational community, contributing significantly to the district's success.
Beyond the professional realm, Superintendent Berger's commitment extends into his personal life. In his free time, he finds joy in the company of his eight children and grandchildren, including biological and foster relationships. This commitment to family mirrors his dedication to the school district, illustrating a holistic approach to leadership that encompasses both professional and personal spheres.
Remaining deeply connected to the community, Superintendent Berger embodies a leader who understands the importance of fostering relationships beyond the school walls. His involvement and engagement reflect a commitment to creating a positive impact within the educational setting and the broader community. As a leader, family man, and community member, Berger's multifaceted dedication underscores his role as a driving force for success within the district and in the lives of those he serves.
