Alli Bulmer and Lily Churchill are the 2024-2025 Co-Primes for this year. These grade 12 students have been working hard to plan events and build our KCI community. Learn more about all the work they do for the school and their role as Co-Primes below.
What is the role of a Co-Prime?
Lily Churchill: The role of Co-Primes is to represent our school in a positive manner, foster the community of students so everyone's needs are met, and help run events and activities in our school. It's as simple as talking to a variety of people each day, and learning about new perspectives. Being a Co-Prime means setting positive examples, and working hard each day. Alli and I are always working on making improvements to the school as best we can, participate in a variety of events, and get to know the faces around our school.
Why did you decide to become a Co-Prime?
Alli Bulmer: I decided to become a Co-Prime because I wanted to help make a difference in the school and help make school a place where everyone is excited to be every day. I saw the impact past Co-Primes have had on myself and others and wanted to be part of that positive impact for someone else. I’m so glad I get to be in this role, I learn so much every day and wouldn’t be who I am without it!
What are your biggest challenges as a Co-Prime?
LC: At this point in the semester, the biggest challenge as Co-Prime is wanting to make a difference in the lives of others, and finding a way to execute such goal. I want everyone in the school to feel valued and recognized for who they are, but trying to meet the needs of all is a challenge. I feel highly passionate about making these impacts, so I will continue to work through the chaos of this school year to create a safe place for all.
What has been the biggest surprise as a Co-Prime?
AB: The biggest surprise to me as a co-prime has been the amount of people I’ve gotten to meet and connect with. Each new person I get to speak with brings new ideas and it makes me realize how diverse and vibrant our school community is. I also didn’t realize how great it would be to connect with co-primes from other schools. Hearing all the fun things and events happening at other schools and being able to bounce ideas off one another helped me bring new ideas to the table at KCI.
What have you been involved in as a Co-Prime?
LC: So far this year, Alli and I have been given the opportunity to build our public speaking skills through assemblies, the horizons leadership conference, WRDSB’s day of pink, and by presenting at the parent council meetings. Our facilitation skills have been put into play at Grade 9 Night, leadership conferences, and new initiatives we have created this year, including our Raider Buddies program! These events are just some of the many involvements I have been a part of this year and I am pumped for the upcoming excitements we have planned for the rest of the year.
What do you have planned for this school year?
AB: So many fun things!!! Notably, we’re going to run a multicultural week in the springtime that will include a multicultural fair on the last day. There will be food, booths…etc. It is going to be awesome! I’m also looking forward to continuing the Free Food Days. We gave out 400 hotdogs last week, and we’re currently planning for the next one! Lily and I can’t wait for the rest of this year, the fun has just begun!
What are you excited about for this year?
LC: This year offers many new excitements and opportunities! I am very excited to attend multiple leadership conferences this year. KCI was lucky enough to send 25 leaders to be spirit leaders at the Canadian Student Leadership conference. This was a very exciting opportunity for me, and all the other KCI leaders. Soon, I will be attending the Ontario Student Leadership Conference as a Spirit Leader as well, where I can continue to bring new ideas into the KCI community.
What do you like most about KCI?
AB: My favourite part about KCI is the people. We have such an amazing community here at KCI. The staff and students are so dedicated and involved and I love how willing they always are to get involved with all of our leadership projects! Additionally, I love our school spirit. We’ve been recognized nationally for it, and for good reason! KCI is like no other when it comes to spirit and it always adds that little extra sparkle to our events and student activities. It’s not every high school where you get things like Limelight, a completely student-run production, and so many student-run clubs.
Raiders are looking forward to seeing what Alli and Lily do as Co-Primes throughout the year!
