Over the past couple of school years, a handful of new educators have joined the school community. Thus, The Edge set out to learn more about a few of these staff members and why they love KCI!
Ms. Galian:
Hello, my name is Ms. Galian- I'm so happy to be here at KCI! I work in the KCI Greenhouse with students who take Green Industries; and will also be working with co-op students in semester two. I make sure that the greenhouse is teeming with life and opportunities for hands-on learning. Come on out and see our garden towers, vermicomposters, and meet your KCI chickens! My favourite part about KCI is twofold - I love the sense of community here, and also the fact that we have so much to offer students in terms of extracurriculars. This is a very special place that is near to my heart.
Ms. Thibodeau:
My name is Mrs. Thibodeau! I started at KCI last year, but my name was Ms. Delve then, so it feels a bit like I am brand new here as I reintroduce myself to everyone with my married name. I teach a lot of History and Civics at KCI. That being said, I'm not limited to those two classes since I also teach Geography and French. I also coach the Girls' hockey team and have started the Anime Club. Before being at KCI, I taught at Cameron Heights and Huron Heights. I also taught in Ottawa for two years before I moved to this region. However, I love that I was able to settle at KCI. I love being part of the ONEKCI Community. It is a big welcoming family to step into. Plus, I love all the food events that are here. Smoothie Day is something I look forward to every week.
In my spare time, I play hockey and video games. I also do special FX makeup (mostly zombie looks!). My partner and I have two cats, Pascale and Nyx, and a leopard gecko, Gizzy Lizzy Geico Gecko.
Mr. Janicas:
Hello! My name is Mr. Janicas and I am new to KCI as of last year. I recently moved to Waterloo and KCI has quickly become my new home. I teach Math and Computer Science, so I spend most of my time on the third floor if you ever need to find me. KCI is an incredibly welcoming community! Students and staff have been amazing at helping me as I adapt to a new school, so thank you for everything.
Ms. Baron:
I love KCI because it gives me a real sense of community. I am honored to be featured in The Edge. Here is a little about me and the reasons why I love KCI.
I graduated from Sheridan College obtaining a diploma in Social Service Work. I then furthered my education at the University of Waterloo—completing a Bachelor’s degree in Social & Development Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I didn’t just study at Sheridan, but I was able to get involved through varsity and working on campus.
One of the reasons why I love KCI is because it offered me a chance to be an assistant coach to what I believe to be the best rugby team here in the Waterloo Region! I also had the pleasure of helping out with field hockey. Then, to top it off, I got to help out with the Our Town Makeup and hairstyling crew.
Beyond getting involved with many teams and groups, I have had the privilege of meeting many talented youth at KCI. I was fortunate to get to help put on the Prom (which had the best theme - Great Gatsby!) and was a memorable night of beautiful prom dresses and attire.
I am passionate about counseling youth and young adults to help them envision and strive toward their bright futures by empowering them to work through the struggles of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem that they face today. My goal is to ensure youth feel protected, seen, and heard as they learn to trust that there is space for them in this world - and that they truly matter! I love that I went from sales to selling teens into believing and achieving their goals.
Mr. Withers
Hello! My name is Mr. Withers and I teach English at KCI. This is my second year teaching here, and I've come to love the sheer amount of teams and clubs that we offer. This school truly has a space for everyone, and I'm so happy to be a part of ONEKCI.
Let's continue to support, welcome, and demonstrate appreciation towards all of the new staff members in the KCI community!
