A Student Trustee is a high school student representing the thousands of students within the Waterloo Region District School Board at different board meetings. This year, KCI had two students running to be Student Trustees: Grade 11 students Charlotte Mollitor and Chiamaka Emeadi.
Charlotte Mollitor explained that she “ran for Student Trustee to create positive change in the WRDSB and to represent the needs and opinions of (her) peers.” She enjoyed being encouraged to “represent (herself) authentically in (her) campaign video and autobiography.”
Charlotte would recommend the experience to anyone interested in making a difference in the school community. She continued by saying that the student trustees play “an important role in the school board” and act as “a stepping stone to higher things.”
Chiamaka Emeadi chose to run for Student Trustee to “have a tangible effect on the 64,000 students in the WRDSB.” Her goals were to “make the playing field for success more even” and provide opportunities for all students, regardless of income-level.
Chiamaka felt “so much support from the KCI community” and is so thankful for the “Raider spirit (she) was surrounded by.” She would recommend running for Student Trustee because “the community you create is so rewarding.”
Both of the KCI candidates for Student Trustee enjoyed their experiences and would recommend it to others who are interested in making a difference in their school communities. They encouraged students considering representing KCI to “just do it” because it is a great experience.
