For the past four years, Maya Paddon has been a fixture of KCI’s Edge News. She has led the club with integrity, and with a focus on finding stories that are newsworthy and important for the student body to know. Today marks Maya’s final issue of The Edge. She will be missed greatly.
Maya joined The Edge four years ago as an eager Grade 9 student, and immediately separated herself from the rest. Her enthusiasm about journalism was evident, and her work ethic was unmatched for someone so young. Maya impressed the club so much that first year that she was asked to take on the role as editor in her grade 10 year. Despite being so new to the club, Maya’s maturity and qualities as a leader were evident. She took the role as editor seriously, and has been running this news site successfully for the past three years.
If you have been interviewed by Maya over the past few years for various articles, then you are aware of the professionalism and seriousness she brings to every story she is investigating. This extends throughout the entire process of creating a monthly issue. Whether it is brainstorming ideas for stories to investigate, helping writers generate ideas, giving guidance on how to form questions and get in touch with sources, Maya is the steady hand that guides our club. In fact, as staff sponsor of the club, I have been able to take a much more hands off approach since Maya became editor, and have bore witness to a leader in the making. It has been a pleasure to watch Maya grow.
Please join me in congratulating Maya on four years of excellent work in journalism! The Edge Club will miss your leadership, and the KCI community will miss your relentless search for the truth.
