The brand new Anime Club at KCI invites all anime enthusiasts to come together every Tuesday at lunch in Room 350. The student members gather to watch two episodes of various anime series, giving them a unique chance to explore different genres and share their passion for anime with their friends and peers.
The main purpose of the club is to create a safe space for KCI students to share everything they know about anime with each other and have an opportunity to make new connections through diverse stories of anime. Each week, they delve into new stories and narratives, and if a particular series resonates with them, they can continue watching it at home and discover more about the characters and the plot. Currently the members of the club are very excited to watch a famous anime series called “Demon Slayer.”
This club is run by KCI History and Geography teacher Ms. Thibodeau. She says that “the club welcomes everyone to join” including students who have not had any prior experience with anime. Most shows are in Japanese language, and “as long as they are able to follow along with the subtitles they are more than welcome to be part of the experience.” By being part of the anime club, the members have a chance to learn about Japanese culture through the stories they watch during lunch. Anime club sets space for cultural education by learning about many Japanese festivals and traditions.
According to Ms. Thibodeau, the spirit of the club can be compared to a character in the “Demon Slayer” anime series called Tanjiro Kamado. This is “due to the acceptance, kindness, and togetherness represented by the members of the club.” Ms. Thibodeau by explaining that the student members create an enthusiastic atmosphere that makes everyone feel included. They are united by unique stories shared within the club.
Ultimately, the anime club offers a great opportunity to expand an individual’s knowledge on anime, connect with other anime fans, and dive into Japanese culture. It also promotes friendship and inclusivity within the KCI student body. They may also collaborate with the film club once the number of members in the club increases. The anime club offers a fun and enriching experience for everyone.
If you wish to join KCI’s anime club, visit room 350 on Tuesdays at lunch!
