The Infamous is a KCI born-and-raised band described by themselves as “an ADHD-riddled mess of people trying to make something that sounds cool.” The band consists of lead singer, Mark Chinchilla, Guitarist, Ricardo Guzman, Bassist, Grey Moons, Drummer, Jacob Elkins, and Pianist, Oscar Angulo. They agreed to an interview with The Edge, where they shared information about both themselves, and the band.
What is The Infamous?
They’ve come to be via Mark Chinchilla, who met each band member through Tech Crew, mutual friends, or even church. While working in Swift Radio on the morning announcements, Mark brought up the idea of starting a band, and from there, The Infamous was born. “We were in the Swift Radio room, right about to do the announcements [...] Mark was like, ‘Oh, I think I want to start a band.’”
The members of The Infamous have almost built their own genre out of the mishmash of the individual member’s favorites, resulting in this combination of grunge, metal, progressive metal, and reggae they've dubbed “Latino metal-grunge”.
What is it like?
Upon asking the band’s favorite part of making and playing music, the response was almost unanimous. “Absolutely performing. One hundred percent.” They went on to talk specifically about their performance at KCI’s Summer Jam. “Whoever goes to Summer Jam wants to be there, so the energy is already better. Through assemblies, everyone is forced to be there.” While The Infamous certainly doesn't dislike playing at assemblies, it’s clear that Summer Jam is an amazing platform for bands like them.
The future of Infamous:
“Proving that we can do it, and seeing where it goes from there,” the band said. The Infamous expresses that their primary goal right now is to simply release a new single, and prove that they can make music and get it out into the world. “At Summer Jam, we will be performing an original,” they noted.
While The Infamous has been strangely quiet save for performing at assemblies, it is clear they aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon, and are eagerly creating something new for their fans to enjoy.
