As KCI’s rendition of Our Town is approaching, many people are wondering what it is going to be like; is it worth the money? Will this play be entertaining for people who aren’t usually into theater? After interviewing one of the many cast members in this play, Isabelle Meissner, it is evident that this is an event everyone at KCI should go see.
Meissner describes the play’s amazing emotional impact, with many aspects to laugh about, cry about, and connect with. It has the ability to let people ground themselves, sit down, and sink into the world of Grover's Corners. Meissner mentions how this play can be enjoyed by everyone because of its amazing variety that everyone can appreciate and relate to. It has an intriguing aesthetic, amazing visuals, and cool outfits, allowing people to fall in love with the story and the world around it. The cast themselves are quite excited about the powerful impact that this play will have on its audience, having the ability to share something that they are all so passionate about is so exciting - especially for the seniors at KCI. Meissner describes how sweet it is to get to know the younger cast members before she graduates, and is excited to give all younger grades something to remember KCI’s graduates for.
After being asked about the most difficult obstacles that the cast has faced, Meissner mentioned “age.” Many of the cast have to play older characters, and it’s been challenging for them to figure out how to play their emotions accurately and realistically to make these characters seem like real people. Another difficulty is all of the P.D. days and Blended Learning Days, which make it hard to rehearse consistently. The cast’s community and atmosphere are Meissner’s favorite parts; she loves how they all know each other so well, that they can laugh and cry and connect before some of them graduate: “Everyone is kind and fun, and even though this play may seem stressful, there is no stress to be a specific way, everyone has the ability to play the characters how they feel they should and to learn and grow through constructive criticism.” Meissner encourages everyone to come watch the show, saying, “Why not! It's a show! The audience has the ability to go to a place to get away from real life and immerse themselves in the lives of the characters.” Regardless of the play’s obstacles, the cast has persevered and is almost ready for their shows on May 2nd and 3rd.
Meissner encourages everyone to come to the Our Town production, to laugh, love, cry, and relate. Immerse yourself into the life in Grover’s Corners, and support KCI Drama!
