KCI is almost ready for the upcoming student-run production known as Limelight, which will be happening in the Auditorium on November 14th and 15th. People are exhilarated this year, with high expectations to watch Limelight X. It is an annual KCI production that has now been put on for the past ten years, each with unique ideas, hardworking and talented music, dance, band and drama casts, along with skillful directors and producers who are all students.
Mr. Graham, KCI’s drama teacher, has been amazed by the work of the producers and the entire production team thus far. He noted that they have worked hard “logistically and creatively” to pull off a show that embraces the uniqueness of itself each year.
Limelight X is expected to be extremely colorful and vibrant with elevated technical elements such as AI lights. Alina Vuorinen, one of two producers of Limelight X, had this to say about the new features: “We have spared absolutely no expense on costumes and props this year, so we are going big for the tenth anniversary!”
Alina and fellow producer, Zane McKinnon, are absolutely loving the pressure of having a busy schedule, expressing that it is their favorite type of work. When discussing his first experience as a Limelight producer, Zane mentioned how much he has enjoyed the experience thus far: “I love spending my time with this, I have learned so much already about the production process that I didn’t learn last year as a cast member.”
Moreover, Alina utilized last year’s Limelight experience to help her this year by making sure that the work is completed in advance so they don’t fall behind: “I have also encouraged my team members to step out of their comfort zone, because there is a general layout for every Limelight, and I want to go past that.”
The producers explained that all the casts were exceptionally helpful and understanding in adapting to challenges. They have all been cooperative and dedicated towards their work to put on a great show.
Mr. Graham has loved the way all of the new grade nines were incredibly talented, and he also saw improvement and leadership from the students who have been in Limelight before: “No spoilers, but several of these acts promise to be some of the best Limelight has ever had, so I'm excited for everyone to see the final product,” he said.
Ultimately, there is a combination of sincere effort, creativity, collaboration, talent, and ambition in the upcoming Limelight X.
In addition to that, every year, Limelight has been a fundraiser for both the Grand River Hospital and the KCI Drama Program, meaning the money goes towards great causes, such as upgrading the auditorium visually.
