WRDSB Summer School - In person & elearning courses
ELearning and In-Person Registration Information:
2024 Secondary Summer School is offering new credit courses only. No credit recovery will be offered.
There are E-Learning (asynchronous learning only) and In-Person options
Courses run from Tuesday July 2, 2024 to Friday, July 26, 2024
Students must fill out the registration form and include a parent email as permission to register for the course
Access to Summer School is limited to students currently enrolled in the WRDSB
Access to Grade 9 courses is limited to those students who were enrolled in the same course in 2023-2024 with the WRDSB and were unsuccessful. This will support students who are not able to engage in credit recovery at their home school.
The GLS10 (Reach Ahead) course will be available to WRDSB Grade 8 students.
Registration will close at 12 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to new WRDSB GeoFencing restrictions, students who travel outside of Canada during the Summer School period will NOT be able to access their GSuite accounts, and therefore will not be able to access D2L / Brightspace for E-Learning courses. If you are travelling outside of Canada in July then summer school courses will not work for you!

General Information & Expectations for E-Learning and In-Person Summer School Program
Students may only take ONE Summer School Credit Course. This can be one full credit course, or two half credit courses (e.g. Civics, Careers).
Students must be current enrolled students staying until June 2024 or beyond. Pre-registered students are not eligible for summer school.
Students who have a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently are best suited for e-Learning courses.
Regular attendance is critical for success at summer school. All full credit summer school courses involve a minimum of 110 hours of content and instruction. In-person learners must attend school from 8:30am-3:00pm (Monday to Friday). All work must be completed and submitted as instructed by the teacher. Students (both in-person and e-learners) are expected to keep up with the course material, due dates and time commitments each week.
WRDSB reserves the right to cancel courses if there is insufficient enrolment. Students/parents/legal guardians will be notified by email if the course they registered for is canceled.
Please note that EDSS guidance counsellors are NOT available during the summer months for summer school support. Please contact your summer school teacher.
WRDSB Secondary Students Taking a WRDSB eLearning Course
To access their online class, students go to https://wrdsb.elearningontario.ca/ and log in with their WRDSB Gmail address and password. They will see their summer school class listed on the homepage under the "My Courses" widget (box)
If they are expressing a desire to learn how to use the platform, every WRDSB secondary student is already enrolled in a WRDSB VLE/D2L Orientation course. I've renamed it to "Summer School Orientation for Secondary Students" and they will see this under "My Courses" as well after logging in. It's a collection of short demonstration videos and other resources to support them in being successful if they need help navigating the platform.
WRDSB Secondary Students Taking an eLearn Course With Another Board
WRDSB students taking an eLearning course with another board can access their course via the WRDSB VLE/D2L still. They log in with their WRDSB Gmail address and password to https://wrdsb.elearningontario.ca/. On the WRDSB homepage, they will see a widget (box) for "My Courses" - these are the classes they have with the WRDSB. If they scroll down, just beneath that they will see another box that says "My Courses in Other Orgs" - they should see any courses they are enrolled in from another school board there, and clicking it will take them right into the course from another board.
Each board runs its startup its own way, but will generally email the student (and often their parent/guardian) instructions and details about what this looks like and what to expect. These emails are grabbed from PRISM, so would go to the student's WRDSB Gmail address and the email listed for the parent/guardian there. Keep this in mind with your communications with students, as for example, different boards have different start and end dates.
