In Superbowl 59, the Eagles won against the Chiefs. The final score was 40 to 22. (The Eagles got 40 and the Chiefs got 22). Honestly, were the Chiefs even trying? In past games the Chiefs have won easily. As an example, in the game against the Texans, they won 23 to 14. (This game was on January 18). Another game that they won was against the Steelers on Christmas day, where they won 29 to 10. These were a few examples, but this has happened many times. Many people believe that the referees rig the games so that the Chiefs can win. This might be true, but if it was, the Chiefs would have won.
The Chiefs got their first touchdown in the 3rd quarter with only about 30 seconds left. The next touchdown that the Chiefs scored was in the 4th quarter with 2 minutes left. The score now was 40 to 14 for the Eagles. What happened to the Chief's ability to score easily? The Chiefs scored again after about 1 minute. At this point they knew that there was absolutely no way to win. Were they even trying to score or did they give up in the second quarter after realizing that the Eagles defense was crushing them? Many people think that they were just nervous, and that they finally warmed up with 2 minutes left in the game.
This shows that even after a great season (15 wins and 2 losses) every game is its own story, and it all comes down to playing your best when it matters the most.
My opinion on if the Chiefs were really trying:
I think the Chiefs were leaning towards not trying, but still tried a little. I think they were counting on the referees to rig the game a little more, but unfortunately for them, they didn't have many times when the referees could call a false flag. Another reason why I think the Chiefs did but didn't try was that they were trying in the beginning but gave up after seeing how good the Eagle's defense and offense really was, they started to give up.
Since the Chiefs have won the last 2 Superbowls. (Superbowl 58 against the 49ers, and Superbowl 57 against the Eagles), many people were rooting for the Eagles (myself included) because the Chiefs had won too much. I think this motivated the Eagles team. Something else I think motivated them was that they didn't want the Chiefs to get a three-peat. (When you win the Superbowl 3 times in a row). Most likely the Eagles wanted to avoid this, because they knew that they would get taunted and embarrassed for a long time.
