Across the street from McCall Middle School, there is an elementary school called the Lincoln. Almost anyone who goes to that school will end up at McCall eventually. One of the 5th grade students, named Kipling "Kip" Drozek, will be at our school next year. This is extremely lucky for McCall. You see, this student is very special. He is a published singer-songwriter.
Kip went through COVID-19 lockdown like the rest of us. During this period, he was in first and second grade. Kipling had a lot of free time, since he had remote learning. To avoid boredom, he began to write music!
His songs were an alternative style. They were mostly about things that early elementary schoolers of his time dealt with: Zoom classrooms, video games, etc. Despite his young age, all of them were really good! They had interesting melodies, movement, and clever lyrics.
During the summer of 4th grade, he did not have any summer camps. So, Kipling decided to go to a studio and record his music! Through the course of one week, he recorded 12 songs! Remember, he was only 9 years old! After almost a year of editing and mastering, his album was complete. The album, titled Oreshadow, was released to the public on September 1st, 2023. He has now performed songs from it at multiple official concerts! One of the concerts was even reviewed by the Boston Globe.
Oreshadow is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music. Links will be posted below to one of his profiles, places to purchase his music/ merch, and his Youtube account. Kip is now 10 years old. He is still working on music, and plans to eventually release a second album. We deeply recommend you his fantastic music out!
