The actor Finn Wolfhard is releasing an album! The child-actor-turned-writer, director, and now singer/songwriter/producer loves music. However, most people know him for his acting portrayal of Mike Wheeler in Netflix's Stranger Things. With that TV show's finale filming complete, many tumultuous emotions have surfaced for Wolfhard. Stranger Things was his life for roughly ten years — and he's only 22! He helped process this "break-up" experience by writing songs. His first solo album, Happy Birthday, will be released on June 6th.
The album's track list is 9 songs long. 3 singles have already been released: Choose the latter, Trailers after dark, and Objection! It is undetermined if there will be more singles, but these three have found moderate success, especially Choose the latter. That song was even praised by Jeff Rosenstock, a musician Wolfhard likes. Finn has voiced a deep love for the Beatles, and he hopes to eventually record at Abbey Road Studios just like them. Another musical inspiration for Wolfhard is Stranger Things alumnus Joe Keery. Joe, known as "Steve Harrington" on the show, writes and performs music under his stage name Djo. Joe was something of a mentor to Finn, and that presence encouraged Finn's pursuit of music.
The album's songs showcase an indie, alternative style from Wolfhard. To promote the record, he will do a brief US tour. Additionally, although he has never put out a solo record, Finn has been in multiple bands: The Aubreys and Calpurnia. Those bands have toured in the past, so he is familiar with the adventure. If you're a Stranger Things fan or enjoy indie music, McCall Paper highly recommends checking out Happy Birthday when it's released!
