Introduction
The 6-day schedule we use at McCall is generally frowned upon. Kids find it disorienting and unnecessary. However, it is overall for the better. With its many benefits, this method may be confusing, but remains very useful.
How Does It Work?
Our 6-day schedule is a form of planner where instead of having a different schedule for each day of the week, you have one for every day out of six days. So, if Monday is day one, five days later is day five, or Friday. This means that the next Monday is day six, Tuesday is one again, etc.
What Makes It Great?
First of all, having a schedule that spans six days means that all classes occur the same amount over two school weeks. When it comes to classes that occur every other day, it is not a matter of three or two times a week. Instead, if you have a class twice one week, you will have it thrice the next. This provides a more even scale of subjects for all of us.
Secondly, it teaches students to check their schedule more often. Most of the time, when kids have daily schedules, they get used to memorizing their classes, and never check theirs. Of course, this very is quick and helpful. But it is important to get in the habit of checking. As they get older, their lives will be more complicated, and the ability to use calenders, planners, etc, will be very important. So, if one has a 6-day schedule, and they have to check what number day it is, that is good practice.
Lastly, it frees up the school's ability to give us snow days, and have national holidays off. If the school decides that we have a day off for some reason, that does not always mean that everyone will miss one day of class. The classes do not correspond with the day of the week, and can therefor be delayed when necessary!
Conclusion
In total, the 6-day schedule deserves better. I hope this article helps people see it in a better light. It does us so much good, and is truly amazing in so many ways.
