If you didn’t already know, we have the day off on Monday! But more importantly… it's Memorial Day! Many people think of Memorial Day as just a day off from school or the start of summer. What people don’t recognize enough is that Memorial Day is a day to honor our soldiers who have passed away.
There are many meaningful ways you can pay your respects to our fallen soldiers. You can visit a memorial or cemetery and leave flowers or flags at the graves of those who served. Observing or taking a moment of silence, especially at 3 p.m., which is the National Moment of Remembrance, is another powerful way to show respect. Attending a local Memorial Day ceremony or parade is a great way to be part of the community while honoring those who sacrificed. Additionally, you fly the American flag at half-way until noon, then raise it up fully for the rest of the day. Taking time to learn about the meaning of Memorial Day and sharing that knowledge with others helps keep the spirit of remembrance alive. Lastly, consider supporting veterans and the families of fallen soldiers through donations or acts of kindness. Although, anything matters and even giving a moment of gratitude can go a long way.
Let this Memorial Day be more than just a day off. Let it be a day of reflection, honor, and gratitude!
