Introduction
McCall has an annual tradition of putting on a talent show every year. After being revived in 2024, this vaudeville of sorts is an absolute blast! I should know; I participated last year. Come to perform, or to support your friends. Here are all of the important details, including exclusive knowledge about auditions that the rest of this show's press doesn't reveal.
So, how do auditions and the dress rehearsal work?
To audition, fill out this Google Form. The auditions will be after school. (For more specific scheduling details, scroll to the bottom of this article.) You should come to the auditions ready to perform your talent as you would at the show. However, costumes are not necessary yet. Also, group numbers are totally allowed; just make sure to let MJ know if somebody in your party can't make it to the auditions/dress rehearsal! Don't forget to bring all of the props and music you might need.
What don't the talent show's resources tell you about auditions?
Although the McCall Talent Show has an incredibly helpful website for information about the scheduling details, certain aspects of the show aren't revealed there. Here's some special particulars about the talent show based on last year's experience:
Thankfully, auditions are not actually meant to weed out the people who get to participate in the talent show; they are just to check that your talent is appropriate! So, everyone who auditions gets in. Also, if you are going to be playing piano, you can use the one in the auditorium.
If you aren't sure what to audition with, you might be wondering what other people tend to do. Last year, some people performed duets or solo pieces on their preferred instruments. These included violin solos, piano solos, and one viola/piano duet. A few participants also choose to sing cover songs. Those can be done with a karaoke track, live instrumentation, or a cappella. Some people have auditioned with comedy skits. One group even formed a band that did a cover song! You don't have to do one of the talents listed here, though. Variety is wonderful, and we recommend trying something of your own design!
Otherwise, here are all of the key dates you need to know for the show.
