Introduction
Whether or not McCall should be able to block certain games and websites for us student users is a complicated debate. The answer is probably very confusing. However, this pros and cons list makes considering the issue much easier!
Pros
It prevents students from accidentally (or on purpose) accessing things that are not age-appropriate. Things like Youtube videos, memes, and such can pop up unexpectedly on the internet, and end being inappropriate. School-made internet filters can help keep kids safe from this!
It helps keep the focus on schoolwork. If less is available on the internet, students have less to be engrossed in! They are less likely to get caught up in something they find interesting when it is blocked. Many distracting things found on the internet, like games or videos, are blocked by McCall.
It lessens not school-appropriate discussions at school. When kids have access less not-school appropriate material online, they talk about it less. This is easier for teachers, and better in general.
Cons
Sometimes, it blocks things that are totally fine for school! This is simply annoying for everybody.
Certain students have no other google accounts than their wpsstudent.com accounts. So, when they are using the internet at home, they cannot access some things that actually are allowed by their parent! This is inconvenient and bothersome.
