Did you know that the organization EnKa was started way back in 1902 by 6 Winchester High School girls who wanted a club like the boys had? The club's motto was "Nachmachen den Knaben", or "to imitate the boys". It then became N.K., or as it's pronounced in German, EnKa. Visit EnKa's site here to learn more. Now a Winchester charity with over 200 female volunteers, the organization's largest source of revenue is the EnKa fair.
If you live in Winchester, you've heard of the fair. Some might call it the biggest town event all year. It's got rides, food, games, and shopping. Got any questions? Consult our FAQs below!
Even though EnKa takes place in Winchester, it is open to anyone. Kids from other towns all come to the fair, especially on Friday night. If you want to avoid the lines, my recomendation is to mainly go on Saturday when the lines are shorter and the people there are mostly from Winchester. If you still want to go on Friday you should order tickets ahead of time so you don't have to wait in the line. You should also eat before coming so you don't have to wait in those lines either.
When attending EnKa it is important to remember that this isn't a town fair--it's a fundraiser. All of the money made at EnKa is going to a charity.
Every person has their own preference but here are the top from each group:
Little kid: Carousel, Dizzy Dragons and Mini Jet
Tween: Scrambler, Cliff Hanger and Orbiter
Teenager: Zipper, Rockstar and Pharaoh's Fury
If you get motion sick do NOT ride these: Orbiter, Zipper, Starship 3000, Tornado and possibly Cliff Hanger
If you don't like the feeling of a stomach drop you can ride these instead: Orbiter, Tornado, Cliff Hanger, Ferris Wheel, Scrambler, Starship 3000
Start with a simple ride that typically has a long line (if you enter right at 5pm) such as the Scrambler or Cliff Hanger. Once you're used to the feeling of being on a ride, you can get in line for a more intense ride such as the Zipper or the Rockstar. When the park starts getting very busy, you can take a break and eat dinner and get desserts such as fried oreos. Then you can enjoy the feeling of going on rides in the dark. On some, it feels like whole new experience!
No! EnKa also has food, drinks and games. Some of the games are luck based and some are skill based such as basketball shooting. EnKa even has slides!
It is up to you. There are rides for everybody but please be mindful of which rides you can and can't go on. Also, be sure to only go on simple rides after eating. If you do begin to feel sick, be sure to tell someone and take a break.
It depends on the preferences of each age group. Some rides such as the Orbiter, Scrambler, Ferris wheel, Starship 3000 and Cliff Hanger are good options for all age groups. If both groups prefer more intense rides but some are too short to ride the Zipper, the Rock Star (42" to ride) and the Pharaoh's Fury (48") to ride, are good options.
One of the best parts about EnKa is their used book sale. You can find the books inside a tent near the food. They are all in good condition (you can barely tell that they are used), and are very cheap. If you're looking for new books to buy I would definitely reccomend shopping here.
