Welcome to Kindergarten!



My name is Mrs. Virginia Corkern, but in most cases I will sign papers and leave messages as Ginny Corkern. I am married and we have four wonderful children, three girls and one boy. We also have six beautiful grandchildren. We live in the community of Isabel, Louisiana. I am a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. I did my student teaching in Slidell, Louisiana at Honey Island Elementary School. I am certified to teach grades one through eight, and specialized to teach grades one through four. I also have my certification to teach Pre-K and Kindergarten. I have my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with my specialty as a Reading Specialist.
 I have taught in the Washington Parish School System for 23 years. I have been at Franklinton Primary School for the last 16 years of my teaching experience. I started by teaching Pre-K, then I taught second grade. Later, I was moved to Kindergarten and this will be my thirteenth year to teach this grade level. I have found that this grade level has my heart! I am very excited and I know we will have a wonderful year!
 I enjoy teaching students and find that not only am I teaching them, but I am learning from them also. I feel that starting at an early age; students need a sound foundation in Reading and all of the key components that go with reading. I also know that Math may be difficult for some students to comprehend, but with the help of their parents and myself, I think they will reach the goals set forth for them.
 In order for this school year to be successful, I will need the help of parents, students, and any other influential person in your child’s life. I know that my students will be ready for first grade, and I expect hard work from each and every one of them!
