Elective
Internships include student performance of substantive work for an employer at an authentic worksite. Internship placements often align with students’ career plans, providing opportunities for them to gain real-world experience within their chosen field. A high-quality internship includes on the-job practice of career-related knowledge and skills. Internships may be paid or unpaid.

Library Student Aide

This course will provide students with experience in providing library media services for students and teachers. Students will have the opportunity to read books, write reviews, create promotional materials and displays, and participate in global project-based learning opportunities. This course is highly recommended for students considering careers as library media specialists, teachers, writers, and instructional technology specialists.
Marketing Internship

Co-requisite: Enrollment in a Marketing class

This course is a career preparation WBL method that combines Career & Technical Education classroom instruction with paid employment that is directly related to the student’s plan of study. The school and the employer plan, coordinate, and supervise the instruction and employment so that each contributes directly to the student’s career objectives and employability. Students normally work between 11 and 15 hours per week to achieve a minimum of 280 hours. Students must be at least 16 years old unless an employment certificate is secured.
Applications for the Marketing Internship are available from the School Counseling Office, Marketing Internship Coordinator, or Work-Based Learning Coach.

Nurse Aide Internship

Co-requisite: Enrollment in Patient Care Technician

This course is a WBL experience, specifically for the Nurse Aide program at the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center, that connects CTE classroom instruction with paid workplace experience directly related to the student’s interests, abilities, and goals. Cooperative education combines a rigorous and relevant curriculum with an occupational specialty. Students participating in cooperative education are guided by a formal, written training plan that defines specific academic and workplace skills to be mastered. Students must be at least 16 years old, unless they have secured an employment certificate.
