All students are required to earn a minimum number of credits in grades nine through twelve to meet their diploma requirements. Typically, students are scheduled to take eight (8) credits each academic year. Verified credit indicates that a student has successfully passed the state-mandated Standards of Learning (SOL) test, in addition to completing the corresponding course. The following courses are eligible for verified credit, as detailed in the chart below.
Promotion
Students pursuing a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma will be promoted based on the credits they have earned, as outlined in the chart below.
Grade level advancement for students working towards an Applied Studies Diploma, including those receiving instruction following the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL), who participate in the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), will be assigned a gravel level based on the student’s four year cohort.
