Adaptive Art

The course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore and engage in artistic expression. Through modified techniques, materials, and individualized support, students will develop skills in a variety of art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media. The course focuses on fostering creativity, enhancing fine motor skills, and building confidence in personal expression. Adaptive Art encourages collaboration, self-awareness, and the celebration of diverse artistic perspectives, presented in a way that is accessible and relevant to students' unique learning needs.
Participation in this adapted art course will support students in fulfilling the requirements for the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP).
Students may enroll in this class each year of high school participation, as appropriate.
Adaptive Physical Education

This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to participate in physical education and health education in an inclusive and supportive environment. This course emphasizes the development of physical fitness, motor skills, social interaction, and health literacy while accommodating the diverse abilities of each student. Students will engage in tailored physical activities that promote cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall physical well-being. Additionally, the Adapted Health component will focus on essential health topics such as nutrition, personal hygiene, and wellness strategies, presented in a way that is accessible and relevant to students' unique learning needs. Emphasis is on modified fitness and wellness activities.

Community Skills

This transition course is designed to develop functional skills necessary for community integration with maximum independent functioning. Instruction and pacing are individualized based on the needs of the student, including needs identified in the Individual Education Program (IEP) in the areas of community access such as money handling, social skills, self-management, and self-advocacy.
Education for Employment I

This course teaches students to make informed career and continuing education choices as they transition from school, gain technical skills, and adapt to the workplace. Students are taught ethical behaviors and career research, job acquisition, workplace communication, self-awareness, self-advocacy, customer service, and life skills. This course offers students integrated labor market needs through an applied employment education format.

This course continues to teach students to make informed career and continuing education choices as they transition from school, gain technical skills and adapt to the workplace. Students are taught ethical behaviors and career research, job-acquisition, workplace communication, self-awareness, self-advocacy, customer service, and life skills. This course offers practical learning opportunities for students to enter the workforce with acquired workplace readiness skills and knowledge and to create economic opportunity.

Foundations of Algebra

This course is a first year high school mathematics course option for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) who need substantial support to bolster success in high school mathematics. The course is aimed at students who have reported low standardized test performance in prior grades and/or have demonstrated significant difficulties in previous mathematics classes. Foundations of Algebra will provide many opportunities to revisit and expand the understanding of foundational algebra concepts, will employ diagnostic means to offer focused interventions, and will incorporate varied instructional strategies to prepare students for required high school mathematics courses.
Independent Living Skills

This adapted curriculum course is designed to develop functional skills necessary for independent living. Instruction and pacing are individualized based on the needs of the student, including needs identified in the Individual Education Program (IEP) in areas of independent living such as housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, hygiene and self-management. This course is designed for students working towards an Applied Studies Diploma following the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning.

This course is designed for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) who have demonstrated significant difficulties in the areas of reading, writing and spelling. Instruction will focus on decoding, word structure, roots, prefixes, suffixes, spelling, vocabulary, background knowledge, and listening comprehension.
Reading II

This course is designed for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) who have demonstrated significant difficulties in the areas of reading, writing and spelling. It is a progression course, building on the skills acquired in Reading I. Instruction will emphasize accurate and fluent word recognition, reading with expression and meaning, writing, and proofreading. The goal of the class is to increase independent reading skills.
