United in Creating is our new, virtual arts festival! This WPS Arts Festival has a 65 year history, finding its home over the years on the city hall plaza, the Worcester Public Library, the Worcester Regional airport and now in a VIRTUAL space. Even though we cannot have a physical show this year, the WPS art teachers wanted to continue this tradition. In this virtual space, work from each school will be shown.
Create a show that is inclusive: multi-media, all grade levels, various art-making experiences, etc.
Create a virtual art(s) show that allows work to be shared with a broad audience in diverse and accessible ways
Create hope and resiliency in our city, state and beyond
The artwork presented in the 2020 WPS Virtual Arts Festival was created throughout the 2019-2020 school year. Some artworks were created while we were in school and some were created at home since schools were shut down due to Covid-19. Due to this, you will see a wide variety of artwork in this year's arts festival. Some work is fully realized and refined, while some work represents ideas that are still in process and may not be fully realized. Due to the closure of schools, our students have taken on much of the ownership of this process. We want to recognize the effort that students have made to create, photograph and share artwork without a teacher physically with them to assist. We also want to recognize the WPS art teachers who have quickly adapted to a new and challenging situation and have found new ways to celebrate and share the work of the WPS students with the larger community.
