During one of my sleepless nights with my last pregnancy in 2018, I remember I thought to myself "I wish I could teach students how to crochet." Then I began to consider the reasons why I thought I could not do this. After many lists and thoughts, the main reason was: supplies, as well as crochet, seemed challenging to start with. I decided that I would ask the Worcester Arts Council for the supplies and I would change crochet to finger knitting. The WAC grant was approved for $2,500, to buy the yarn.

The Why- Providing the students innovative, hands-on education is vital to ensure a memorable experience for each student. While providing these experiences to the youth of Worcester Public Schools students, we must not forget how important it is to provide students with new experiences that will enhance not only their elementary career but increase their life long love for the arts, education, and curiosity that will benefit us all.
More about me- I have been an art teacher with Worcester Public Schools (WPS) since 2009. I am currently the art teacher at West Tatnuck and Wawecus Road and work with all students on a weekly basis. I am a devoted member of the WPS Visual Art Staff who participates in several community activities that strengthen my knowledge of the arts as well as being able to connect to all my students. I am an experienced crochet artist and loom knitter, myself and am eager to teach the students.
