Roger Lancelyn Green (1918 - 1987) is best known for retellings of myths and legends for children. He studied at Oxford and was taught by C. S. Lewis who he remained close to, he was also part of The Inklings with Lewis and Tolkien. He came from an old, wealthy family and in later life lived in Poulton Hall, Cheshire which his family had inhabited for 900 years. As well as retellings of myth he wrote his own children's fiction and biographies of children's authors.
