Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900 - 1944) was a French writer and aviator, most famous for The Little Prince. A good summary of his life is to be found here or for something more beautiful I would highly recommend this picture book biography of him by the wonderful Peter Sis, the most stunning detail of which (to my mind) was that he used to write while flying a plane!
