Friends of Federation Hill

Who we are

The Friends of Federation Hill are a group of residents that live near Federation Hill and have an interest in working with Wodonga Council to improve the hill's native biodiversity and improve its value to our community.

We are so lucky to have this patch of woodland so close to where we live, providing wonderful views, walking and bike riding trails and plenty of open space. The hill is also home to lots of wildlife, and many species of plants. There is so little of this woodland left in Victoria that parts of it are designated as 'Endangered' communities.

We are part of the Wodonga Urban Landcare Network.

In 2022 the Friends of Federation Hill worked hard on restoring the dam near Tussock Track, on the northern side of Federation Hill, near Barton Street.  The project is restoring the dam to improve its ability to support wildlife and provide a place for local residents to enjoy.

Tree planting

The group has planted trees and shrubs along Federation Hill to provide homes for wildlife such as woodland birds, gliders and koalas found on the hill. This planting is done in collaboration with Wodonga Council and with the support of the broader Wodonga Urban Landcare Network.

Wildlife on the hill

Federation Hill is home to lots of wildlife including echidnas, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, gliders, possums, bats, lizards, owls, robins, honeyeaters and many, many more bird species.

You can see sightings of wildlife on the Hill on the Albury Wodonga Nature Map
