Mail

The K reinforces the reading-writing connection by including a message to a friend as a weekly homework assignment. Messages can start out as pictures or a simple sentence dictated to the parents and signed by the student. As their abilities grow, the children can begin to print some of their own words. With consistency, our language arts lessons, and parent encouragement, many students are able to write a full-page letter by the end of the year.

Look in the folder for a slip on Fridays for the name of that week's pen pal. Your child may return the letter and "mail" it in class any day from Monday through Thursday. Mail is delivered on Friday or the last day of the school week.

Mail is suspended between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day so the children can switch to making Christmas cards and Valentine cards.
